Beginning Friday, October 3, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., all remaining open fire prohibitions and restrictions will be lifted throughout the entire Coastal Fire Centre.

Category 1 and 2 prohibitions were lifted last month.

Municipalities may align with BC Wildfire Service prohibitions or impose their own prohibitions based on local conditions, so it’s best to check with your municipality ahead of time if you are planning on burning.

If you are planning on burning, you are asked to do it safely.

BC Wildfire Service says human-caused wildfires are completely preventable and divert critical resources away from lightning-caused fires.

Anyone found in violation of open burning regulations may be fined and subjected to additional penalties.

If the incident causes or contributes to a wildfire, the person responsible may be ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs.

For more information, including links to resources on safer burning, visit BC Wildfire Service.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
