The City of Courtenay is inviting residents to help shape the future of the Courtenay and District Memorial Outdoor Pool at Lewis Park.
Built in 1949, the pool has served the Comox Valley for 76 years and is now at the end of its life.
Without major repairs or a plan for renovation or replacement, it will close permanently.
The pool sits next to the Lewis Centre and the Tsolum River in a central location near public transportation and other community amenities, but it is also within an area at risk of flooding.
Previous public engagement showed strong support for outdoor aquatic services in Courtenay and the Comox Valley and confirmed that residents want the pool to stay at its current location.
Based on this feedback, the City is focusing all design options on the existing Lewis Park site.
Through an options study, plans are being developed to either repair, renovate or replace the pool at this location.
Residents can review the options and share their feedback in a public survey, open now through Sunday, October 19, at Engage Comox Valley.
Two open houses will also give people a chance to learn more and speak with project staff on Saturday, September 27: 9 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Comox Valley Farmers’ Market (Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds, 4839 Headquarters Road) and 1–4 p.m. at the Lewis Centre (489 Old Island Highway).
All feedback from the survey and open houses will be shared with council this fall to help guide decisions on the pool’s future.
