The Town of Comox is advancing recommendations from its first Parks and Trails Master Plan by incorporating several priorities into its Strategic Plan.

The Master Plan, completed earlier this year, provides a long-term vision for managing parks, trails, and related infrastructure. Developed with community input, research, and analysis, it sets out a roadmap for future investment and decision-making.

Mayor Nicole Minions says the community is passionate about parks and trails, and Council wants to enhance recreation, accessibility, and public spaces in ways that reflect public input.

Several initiatives are being flagged for future attention.

These include a concept plan for the Comox Community Centre outdoor area and Village Park, with potential features such as an inclusive playground, picnic areas, a covered gathering space, sports courts, a pump track, and improved drainage.

Other priorities include a management plan for Marina Park, reclassification of Lancaster Park to a Community Park with new amenities such as washrooms and a splash pad, and accessible washrooms at Kye Bay and other waterfront areas.

Accessibility upgrades are also proposed for Kye Bay and Point Holmes, along with new dog park pilot projects in neighbourhood parks.

These projects are not yet funded. Adding them to the Strategic Plan signals future priority, but actual decisions will be made during annual budget and capital planning processes.

Both the final Parks and Trails Master Plan, and Strategic Plan can be found at Town of Comox.
