BC Hydro has issued an update on high flows along the Puntledge River.

The utility said yesterday that iInflows have continued to recede this week as expected, but they remain above normal.

Moderate to heavy rain is forecast for Saturday, along with unseasonably high temperatures and elevated freezing levels.

As a result, inflows into the Comox Lake Reservoir are expected to remain above normal through the weekend.

BC Hydro reduced the release from the Comox Dam Wednesday night to approximately 15 m3/s to provide a 48-hour fish pulse flow.

Beginning late Friday, crews will increase release from the Comox Dam and maintain an increased spill through Monday.

They expect to maintain a spill between 150 m3/s – 200 m3/s to continue to lower the reservoir and maintain operational flexibility.

Temporary safety signage remains in place and BC Hydro reminds the public to stay away from the high and dangerous flow along all sections of the Puntledge River through Monday, February 9.
